FAQs
Where is Longacre Leadership program located?
We are located just outside of Newport, PA, approximately 40 minutes northwest of Harrisburg, 2 ½ hours from Philadelphia, and 3 ½ hours from New York City. View map or get directions.
How many students are in the program?
We accept no more than 72 teenagers, 36 girls and 36 boys, ages 12-18.
How long are the sessions?
We run one four-week session and one six-week session. Both sessions start on the same day.
Where does everyone sleep?
We sleep in 16' X 16' council tents on wooden platforms with beds and cubbies for our clothes. There are six boys or girls in each tent and the staff sleeps separately in nearby tents.
What is the food like?
Because we all take turns cooking, everyone tries hard to make great meals for each other. We grow and raise much of what we eat. We offer a salad bar at both lunch and dinner, and serve vegan, vegetarian, omnivorian, and gluten-free options.
Do we get to take showers?
Of course! You can take a shower every day, if you wish. We just ask that you don't skip it entirely!
What time do you get up in the morning?
Most mornings we have breakfast at 8 AM. Of course, if we're up later than usual the night before, we'll sleep in. We know how important it is to get at least 8 hours of sleep. Sundays teenagers can sleep in until lunch!
Do you have to go rock climbing?
No. Each day, you choose the projects, activities and trips you want to participate in. Some students love to go horseback riding, and others never visit the horse barn. That's OK.
