2002
The staff of 2002 included 17 returning Big Kids! This was a new record for most returning staff. It was also the year that Sarah and Matt Scafidi-McGuire moved to Markelsville.
One of the most exciting additions to this summer was Longacre’s commitment to begin growing endangered American Chestnut trees. The first young trees were planted by the woodshop. A water reclamation project was also built there in order to nourish the plants with rainwater. Another fun summer project was the construction of the BBQ pit, which makes our Sunday night cookout ritual more efficient and festive. By far, the biggest project this summer was the construction of an addition to the Pole Barn. Led by Matt Scafidi McGuire, 2002 farmers added a new bay to the Pole Barn, originally constructed by farmers in 1981. We destroyed and rebuilt Girls 2 tent deck in the fall and spring with the help of Rocky Crockett.
In addition to Susan and Jon, the summer staff was Cori Allen*, Dan Boehl, Zach Bramel, Carmen Bornstein, Rocky Crockett, Colleen (Fitz) Fitzpatrick, Megan Gantt, Davey Jones*, Ian Kelly, Anna Krachey, Julie Martin, Matt (MattyO) Oransky, Andy Scafidi, Matt Scafidi McGuire, Sarah Scafidi McGuire, Julie Schlossberg, and Liz Stam*. Lauren Abber served another summer as infirmary caretaker.
Susan hired Matt Scafidi McGuire to join her and Jon in the office year round.
