1989
1989 was the first year that sessions were reduced from six or eight weeks to five and seven weeks. During the summer, the major building projects were the building of the clivus (composting toilet) multrum and the remodeling of the Visions (formerly Grafius Shaefer's) house in lovely downtown Markelsville. The kids also did basket weaving workshops with Teena Mills, and Tae Kwan Do with Jack Nitschke. One memorable - but unfortunate - event was that Gaby's VW van spontaneously burst into flames one afternoon.
Besides partners Mel Bornstein, Chris Mathna, and Susan Smith, hired hands included Sal Clarizio, Katie Derosier,* Brooke Evans,* Sharon Fialco,* Nell Gould,* Gaby Immerman,* James Rosow,* Lila Leff,* Patricia Mayer,* David Meyer, Jack Nitschke, Seth Reichgott,* David Thorpe, Dan Weiss, Amanda Wember, and Robin Wyrick.
