Arts and Crafts

At Longacre, we encourage interested teens to produce their own artwork.  Participants are invited to audition for a summer play, put on a musical or dance performance for our Talent Show or Coffee House, and use any of our facilities and supplies to manifest their artistic vision and let loose their creative energy!

Each summer, Longacre invites a visiting professional artist to join our community to teach teens their craft.  We've had professional actors, sculptors & mixed media artists join us, as well as a flax-to-linen artist.  Students can choose to work with the visiting artist daily to hone their skills.

If teens have a musical instrument they play, we encourage them to bring it along for the summer!

Arts and Crafts Offered at Longacre

Stained Glass:  Participants can design, cut, and solder stained glass to create anything from a picture frame to a model airplane.

Theater:  Every summer teenagers host two theater productions.  Participants are involved in every aspect of the theatrical process, from costume-making and set design, to performance.  The plays are performed for families from the local Migrant Education and Head Start programs, various church groups, and local children.

Ceramics:  In our ceramics studio we learn how to shape clay by hand.  Teenagers can learn to use a kick wheel and electric wheel to make beautiful pottery that they can glaze and fire in the kiln.

Mural Painting:  We have painted many murals around the farm over the years.  A few cover the entire side of farm buildings!  Participants can get creative and become a part of Longacre history.

Mosaics:  Mosaics adorn our tables and structures.  Teenagers can learn to work with colored tiles to design gorgeous patterns and pictures.

Fiber/Fabric Arts:  From tie-dye and t-shirt design, to quilt making, wool spinning and knitting, there are many opportunities to learn new skills at Longacre Farm.
